This week has seen a few changes in the market as we rapidly march towards Christmas!
- Queensland strawberries have had much shorter supply this week and prices have firmed up to more realistic prices for the growers with a punnet of strawberries now retailing around the $4 mark.
- Blueberries have also shortened a little in supply as growers choose to prune their plants early as market prices have been so depressed. This gives the grower a better start for early picking in their next season and also forces the market price up a little. Having said that we have still been able to secure blueberries of great quality and retailing at as little as $2.50 per punnet. Expect to see prices rise a little in coming weeks.
- Water melon has been in short supply and demanding high prices, retailing around $5 per kg.
- Tomatoes also saw a jump in price towards the end of last week and again firmer today. It is fairly traditional to tomatoes rise steadily in the lead up to Christmas.
- Queensland stone fruit is increasing in supply but demand is causing prices to hold for the time being.
- We have purchased our first lot of USA pomegranates but at $8.50 each they are pretty expensive.
- Most vegetable lines are pretty stable with the exception being Zucchinis and cherry tomatoes firming up a little. All in all supply is good and quality is excellent across the board. Fingers crossed the weather continues to smile on our growers and we have a great spring season for all.
