Market Report 9 November 23

They say a week is a long time in politics and the same could be said for the market.!

  • This week has seen quite a bit of movement on price and quality across a number of lines.
  • .Broccoli has finally jumped in price.  As buyers we may not embrace the market price jump but it is good news for growers who have been selling below the cost of production for most of winter due to oversupply.
  • Bananas have come back in price as have Lebanese cucumbers and zucchini as northern Victoria heats up and production increases. .
  • I am happy to say Victorian strawberries are in full swing and thanks to the dryer spring quality is excellent and the flavour and sugar levels are good
  • Stone fruit is also ramping up production with Cherries and Apricots coming to market in good numbers.  The dryer season actually means the fruit retains more flavour and more sugar resulting in a great eating experience. (A wet season actually dilutes the flavour and sugars).
  • Asparagus, lettuce and most other vegetable lines are offering great value with fairly depressed pricing and excellent quality. The only line that has really been short this week has been tomatoes. All in all we are spoiled for quality and choice this year.

Fruitfully Yours….
