Winter produce supply in the market has been pretty good this winter but a few lines have shortened up in supply forcing prices up.
- Broccoli, Cauliflowers and cabbage have all seen a price jump in the last week and a half with short supply expected to continue for the next few weeks. So far quality has remained good though cauliflower size is a little on the small side.
- Tomatoes and zucchinis have been up and down in supply but still remain good value for this time of year.
- The good news is that berry supply has ramped up with Queensland strawberries increasing in supply forcing the price down this week. Raspberries and blueberries remain fairly short in supply but pricing is quite reasonable for winter berries.
- Citrus is in peak season now with lots of blood oranges, cara cara and navel oranges in peak supply. Quality and flavor are excellent and value is great right now. Mandarins, tangelos and grapefruit are all in peak season.
- Make sure you take the opportunity to enjoy the citrus fruit while they are at their very best.
- We have seen the first of the new season KP mangoes hit the market floor and it won’t be long until numbers out of the northern territory increase. The industry is hoping for a better season than we had last year. The supply of rock melon and honey dew melons has finally started to increase with new season fruit now available at much cheaper prices.
- Keep an eye out for new season Koo Wee Rup Asparagus that will very soon hit the shelves.
- And make the most of every meal by shopping seasonally at Watts Fresh!
