And……just like that Autumn is here
- While we are still having a few hot days, the mornings have that certain freshness that only comes with Autumn. Indeed, Autumn is my favorite time of year.
- We still have a few weeks to enjoy the last of the peaches and nectarines, and plums will be with us for maybe another month. At the moment plum varieties are abundant and we have blood plums, queen garnet, turtle egg plums, golden plums, and October Sun. All great value and great eating quality.
- Grapes are also fantastic with a great range on offer. Candy crunch, cotton candy, Crimson, black sapphire (finger grapes), Thompson seedless, natural sultana and black America are all on show in store at the moment.
- The hot finish and extended dry period have taken a toll on some vegetable lines with cauliflower and broccoli becoming very short in supply forcing the price up a little.
- Tomatoes this week have doubled in price as very low numbers of tomatoes are being picked at the moment due to some stock losses on the back of some very hot days.
- On the bright side we have an abundant supply of pumpkins with prices as low as $1.49/kg for grey pumpkin and Jap and butternut in good supply. Click the button below to go to our website and check out our delicious Autumn Pumpkin Salad recipe on our website.
- New season apples are in full swing. Fuji, Gala, Sassy, and Ginger Gold are all new season now. Finally, everyone’s favorite lunch box apple, the Missile is back with our first lot hitting our shelves today. See our website for a recipe for Apple Frangipane Tart with Miso Caramel.
- We also have some exotic fruit offerings with Jujubes (Chinese dates), beautiful Australian grown dragon fruit and even a special deal on Papaya.
- Over the next few weeks, we will see the Aussie Valencia season start to wind up and the first of the Aussie navels and mandarins are not too far away.
- In the mean time make the most of the stone fruit and the few warm days, true autumn is not that far away!
Fruitfully Yours, Dean
