Market Report 27 June 24

Winter market can be a dreary affair as growers struggle with mud and rain, short hours of daylight and cold, cold mornings

  • Can you imagine picking broccoli as the sun breaks on one of those cold mornings? The mud makes it hard to pick white cauliflowers, the short days and cold weather slows production to almost nil. Still somehow our growers come through and keep providing us with an amazing range of high-quality produce. Some lines though are particularly short as even Queensland is having a colder than usual patch of weather.
  • Strawberries, raspberries ,blueberries and blackberries are in very short supply and some days this week we have seen zero stock come to market from interstate. Sweet corn is also short and quite expensive for this time of year.
  • Tomatoes on the other hand have increased in numbers and prices have come back to a more affordable position.
  • Citrus fruits are still in abundant supply with Navels and Cara Cara Navels being the best value pick at just $1.99kg.  Seville Oranges have just arrived but supply is limited so don’t miss the boat!
  • Other great value lines this week are Swiss brown mushrooms, silver beet, cabbage, cauliflower, Large zucchinis and machine picked beans.
  • While there are a few lines short, for the most part we have pretty good supply coming to market and prices overall are on the low side so plenty of great value hitting the shelves.

Cheers, Dean
